Antonio Puerta-Notario is Honorary Collaborating Professor at the University of Málaga and Emeritus Professor of the University of Málaga.

He was instrumental in establishing the wireless optical communications research line at the University of Málaga and has played a key role in the development of this activity within the group.

His research has made major contributions to free-space optical communications, visible light communications, optical channel modelling, communication theory and signal processing. His work has been particularly influential in the statistical modelling of atmospheric optical channels, including the development of the Málaga, or M, distribution for turbulent optical links.

His scientific contributions provide an important foundation for several WOCLab research lines, especially in optical channel modelling, system performance evaluation, spatial diversity and adaptive optics for atmospheric and underwater wireless optical communication systems.
