José María Garrido-Balsells is Professor of Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Málaga and a member of WOCLab – Wireless Optical Communications Laboratory.

His research focuses on wireless optical communications, with particular emphasis on free-space optical links, underwater optical wireless communications, optical channel modelling and performance analysis under turbulent and scattering propagation conditions.

Within WOCLab, he contributes to the development of statistical channel models, system-level performance evaluation and experimental validation methodologies for terrestrial and underwater wireless optical communication systems.

He has led and participated in research projects and technology-transfer activities related to optical wireless communication systems, including free-space, underwater and visible-light communication scenarios.
